XCURSION SERIES: R
Reference Edition Bass Drivers
18 inch, 21 inch, and 24 inch subwoofer driver
Low distortion, low compression LFE driver
The best things in life are often an extension of something else. The art of taking the principal of one thing and changing the result just enough so the original still retains it's status and awesomeness, while introducing a version that is excellent and amazing within it's own merits. The GUJvX is a really good subwoofer in a 15 and 18 inch layout, and its pumped up big brother is available in 18, 21, and 24 inch layouts. The GUJvXR is the perfect blend of epic amounts of single digit bass with tons of punch and slam.
In cinema and theater, deep bass often exists all on its own, whereas music has highs and lows combined that mask distortion and mechanical noises from the subwoofer that are commonly generated from the very low frequencies. Therefore, cinema audio reproduction does not have the luxury of hiding behind other audio sound in hopes of skirting poor engineering and low quality manufacturing in favour of a lower price point. To best resolve these demanding characteristics of cinema audio, a driver with lots of clean linear stroke and a stiff magnetic field is needed. This is where an underhung driver should work best in principle, however common problems with underhung drivers are low Xmax and power handling. The magnetic field is much longer for underhung designs than for overhung, therefore the underhung motor design is much more expensive to manufacture. As a result some manufacturers usually favour smaller voice coils, lower Xmax, and weaker magnets, and sacrifice the needed power handling and low mechanical driver noise that cinema sound requires. This has given the underhung design a bad reputation, but at Harbottle Audio change has arrived. Enter the GUJvX, the solution for cinema sound. An extension of the GUJvX with some additional benefits in handling bigger size cones, keeping weight down which reduces shipping costs quite dramatically, and getting well past specification of THX or avid bass head standards.
To get the most out of your home cinema system, you need long excursion drivers with very high power handling and very low distortion. These driver characteristics make easy work of the dynamic material found in todays' blurays. However, when room modes get out of control, the general consensus by the masses is to add another subwoofer. What is usually overlooked is the fact that room modes are antagonized and excited by harmonic distortion caused by the physical properties of the driver. So adding more subwoofers only evens out the distortion that causes the room mode issues, it doesn't actually get rid of the room mode itself. The GUJvXR motor group offers extremely low distortion by making the magnetic field very stiff and even throughout the steel of the motor along with excellent control over flux modulation. This helps quiet excited room modes and replaces them with crystal clear bass, right up to the limit of what the driver can handle. The GUJvX is safe to push hard or even overdrive, because it is designed to give you audible signals in the mechanical parts of the driver that indicate when it is pushed past its limit well before it will suffer damage.
In car audio, we generally see that the usability of the subwoofer is limited to frequencies that are perceived to have lots of bass and move lots of air. We offer a high end option for these demands that push the frequency response far past the subjective bass range and well into the sound SPL and SQ range simultaneously. Why limit your sound?
Traditional car audio is designed for one of two parameters: Sound Quality (SQ) or Sound Pressure Level (SPL - how loud the sound is). The Excursion Series: Reference Edition breaks all the rules of traditional car audio design with SQ never seen in car audio and crushing amounts of SPL packaged with enclosures requirements of only 3.5 cubic feet and sensitivity that requires very little power relative to its size and potential output.
The main complaint that our clients talk about is how subwoofers only hit a very narrow frequency range really well, and the rest of the music falls off dramatically. Well, we are pleased to offer truly high-end audio to the car audio community without the looming issue of compromise. The vXR subwoofer drivers are designed to focus on deep bass with lots of usable frequency response (5-300 Hz). This will give your car audio system detail and depth of sound quality that has never been experienced before. With calculated output of over 140 dB before factoring cabin gain, the vXR series is built for shock and awe.
If you want high end sound in your car, the FWA Excursion Series: Reference Edition is the subwoofer will provide both SPL and SQ in vast sums.
What makes the vXR driver capable of pro audio is the simple fact that you feel it before you can see it. The vXR is the Xcursion series with all kinds of high performance injected into it, and then designed to dish out earth-splitting bass from 5-300 Hz that is unlike anything on the market.
In pro audio applications, the vXR is perfect for medium to large venues where retaining as much real-estate as possible is the goal. The unique ability to perform beyond pro audio standards combined with small enclosure requirements and massive power handling is nothing short of perfection for pro audio.
If you are looking for a bigger and more violent subwoofer driver, the vXR is the short list.
