WHY USE A TURNTABLE WEIGHT?

You’ve invested in your deck, your cartridge, and your preamp. Don't let micro-vibrations blur the details.

1.   Natural Resonance Damping

Unlike steel or brass weights which can sometimes "ring" or add a metallic coloration to the high frequencies, hardwood offers natural damping properties. The Isak Pillar absorbs micro-vibrations from the stylus tracking the groove, resulting in a "blacker" background and cleaner imaging.

2.   Flattens "Unruly" Vinyl

Even new records aren't perfectly flat. The mass of the Isak Pillar couples the record firmly to the platter, flattening minor warps and ensuring the stylus tracks the groove walls evenly. This reduces distortion and preventing mis-tracking on difficult passages.

3.   Improved Bass Response

By firmly coupling the vinyl to the platter, the record effectively gains the mass of the platter itself. This solidity allows your stylus to extract low-end frequencies with greater authority, delivering tighter, punchier bass without the "mud."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Will the Isak Pillar damage my turntable's motor or bearing?

A: This is a common concern with heavy metal weights (some exceeding 1kg), which can wear down the thrust bearings of belt-drive turntables. However, the Isak Pillar is crafted from hardwood with the mass down to the gram CNC engraved on the bottom of each weight. This offers the perfect balance of mass for stability without being excessively heavy while fully informing the customer. It is safe for the vast majority of belt-drive and direct-drive turntables.

Q: How does a wood weight compare to a clamp?

A: A clamp mechanically locks to the spindle, often requiring threaded spindles or force to apply. A weight like the Isak Pillar relies on gravity. It is faster and easier to use—simply place it over the spindle and play. Furthermore, wood is non-magnetic and non-inductive, ensuring no interference with sensitive moving coil (MC) cartridges.

Q: Will this fix severely warped records?

A: The Pillar is designed to flatten mild to moderate warps and improve the tracking of "dished" records. While it significantly improves playability, severely heat-damaged or "taco" warped records may still require professional flattening.

Q: Does the type of wood change the sound?

A: While the density varies slightly between Yew, Walnut, and Rosewood, the primary benefit is the mass and the non-resonant nature of the wood. We recommend choosing the wood that best matches the aesthetic of your turntable plinth or listening room.
